A Small Town Run: by Rich Ayers with intro by John Mellencamp

Well I was born in a small town
And I lived in a small town
My parent lived in a small town
I was educated in a small town
No I cannot forget where it is that I come from
Well I was born in a small town

Well I ran in a small town
A small town in Kansas named Holton
Just north of Topeka lives this small town
On September 20th I ran a 5 K in this small town
With sixty runners over some cobblestone streets
Well the finish was most unusual for this small town
The overall female winner was eleven-year-old Sidney Strader
From this small town in 24:09 a 7:47 pace
And the overall male winner was sixty-year-old Rich Ayers
In 21:45 from Kansas City but I grew up in a small town
Now this small town race may not seem that unusual except that Sidney is Rich’s great Niece
I was a proud great uncle as we both received our awards from this small town race
I love running in a small town you should try it some time

Note: Population for Holton is 3,400
Yes, I’m from a small town Sabetha, Kansas, population 2,700
