A GREAT DAY FOR A NIECE & UNCLE
OR
YOUNG + OLD = GREAT

The 23rd Annual French Market 5K Classic was held in Holton,

Kansas, just north of Topeka on Highway 75, on Saturday,

September 20th. It was a beautiful sunny morning for the runners

as the temperature was 55 degrees. Approximately sixty runners

lined up just after 8:30 AM for the start of the 3.1-mile run that

follows the course south of town and returns to the town square for

the finish. The overall female winner was eleven-year-old Sidney

Strader from Holton in a time of 24:09, which is a 7:47 per mile

pace. The overall male winner was sixty-year-old Rich Ayers

from Kansas City in a time of 21:45. But the most unusual and

unique results from the race this year are not only the ages of the

overall female and male winners, but that they are related. Sidney

is a great niece to her great uncle Rich. The unique result from this

race has probably never occurred in any race any where before, or

has it? Marlene Ayers, Rich’s wife, also won her age group 55-59.
